Our Full Review

From the Erwin Brothers comes Jesus Revolution, an outstanding and inspirational film depicting the start of the Jesus Revolution revival in the 1970s.

Based on a true story this film follows a young Greg Laurie who is searching for all the right things in all the wrong places: until he meets Lonnie Frisbee, a charismatic hippie-street-preacher. Together with Pastor Chuck Smith, they open the doors of Smith’s languishing church to an unexpected revival of radical and newfound love, leading to what TIME Magazine dubbed a JESUS REVOLUTION.

The film is well produced and directed, with stunning locations and sets, from costume through to cars all depict the 1970s, with the colouring and cinematography adding to the feel. The story and the acting bring this historical event to life with Kelsey Grammer, Joel Courtney, Jonathan Roumie and Anna Grace Barlow fantastically portraying and bringing to life Chuck Smith, Greg Laurie, Lonnie Frisbee and Cathe Laurie with a believable performance.

There are some wonderful scenes throughout the film that show the transforming and redemptive grace of God and how that impacts a generation of people from all walks of life. One of the stand out scenes involves a conversation between Greg and the reporter from Time Magazine at a time when Greg is hurting.

The film is gritty, and just a word of warning there are scenes that show the drug culture of the time, so we do not recommend this film for younger audiences. The film also doesn’t shy away from what happen and how ego and sin can take hold when you start thinking it is about you instead of God. Remember to always stay humble and graceful no matter what happens and how God may use you, it is by the power of His Holy Spirit and not our own strength.

This film really highlights that God will forgive anyone who come to Christ, no matter who they are or what they have done, and can use anyone to help spread His word. No one is beyond the grace and forgiveness of God. We pray that God will use this film to bring many to know Christ and ask for revival. Indeed it is fitting that this film is being released while revival is taking place in Ashbury, only God can plan that. Take your friends, open your hearts and see how God can transform anyone.
