I Can Only Imagine 2 is an inspirational and emotional must see movie that continues Bart Millard’s journey based on the true story behind the song Even If.
After the breakout success of the song I Can Only Imagine, MercyMe’s Bart Millard is living the dream—sold-out arenas, a devoted fan base, and a thriving career. But behind the spotlight, Bart’s past threatens the family he’s built, especially the fragile bond with his son, Sam.
When hopeful newcomer Tim Timmons joins the band for their biggest tour yet, he unknowingly brings a renewed gratitude to Bart’s life through their unlikely friendship. Bart soon discovers that Tim carries hardships—and secrets—of his own, forcing him to face his past and repair his relationships with Sam and his wife, Shannon, before fame costs him what matters most.
This film introduces us to Bart’s son Sam who has type 1 diabetes, it shows the struggles of fatherhood, the struggles of caring for a child with medical needs and it is touching to see (on a personal note with a child with medical needs, it was relatable in many places). We are also introduced to Tim Timmons, who co-wrote Even If based on the song It Is Well With My Soul, again the story intertwined is emotional but has strong faith elements that will inspire and encourage.
John Michael Finley is back as Bart Millard alongside Sammy Dell as his son and Milo Ventimiglia as Tim Timmons, they are incredible in bringing this story to life.
The story is incredible, touching and life changing, there is also humour too (though some attempts seem unnecessary). There is also some artistic licence in this movie, timelines have changed but the essence of the true story remains and this is what Kingdom Story Company and Andrew Erwin do well, bringing life-changing testimony, packaged up in an accessible film that can reach millions and has the potential to change lives.
Overall I Can Only Imagine 2 is not to be missed, it is the most inspirational movie of the year which is full of faith, family and finding God in the midst of pain. This film will inspire and has the potential to change lives.
