Pure Flix, the film studio behind God’s Not Dead is looking to turn the Thailand cave rescue into a movie.
The gripping news over the past few weeks has had the world on the edge of their seats, hoping and praying as they watched the dramatic rescue of 12 children and their football coach trapped in a cave by rising water and now the ordeal is set to be turned into the film as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
The Hollywood Reporter has heard by phone from Michael Scott, the CEO and co-founder of Pure Flix, who lives in Thailand part time and has been at the scene for several days.
“The bravery and heroism I’ve witnessed is incredibly inspiring, so, yes, this will be a movie for us,” Scott said.
He also went on to say that it is likely the film will be released under Pure Flix’s mainstream label Pinnacle Peak which is also releasing their latest movie Little Women, adding “It’s not necessary to make this a Christian film, just an inspirational one,”.
The story became even more “personal” to Scott and his wife when former Sgt. Saman Kunan died on the Friday while volunteering as a rescuer, since Kunan was his wife’s friend.
“This isn’t just about a movie, it’s about honoring everybody involved, including the soldier who died,” he said.
Pure Flix’s co-founder David A.R. White told the Wall Street Journal that “It’s very important to us to be sensitive to the situation, as this is a personal story, it is not our goal to exploit this situation in any way, but to honor all those that are involved.”
Screenwriters are set to be lined up in the next few weeks and will be co-produced by Kaos Entertainment with an estimated budget of $30 million to $60 million.
