Jesus Revolution, the lateset film from the Erwin Brothers has surprised the US Box Office, surpassing all expectations and significantly over-performing. The film also set a new record.
Jesus Revolution is an outstanding and inspirational film depicting the start of the Jesus Revolution revival in the 1970s. This film really highlights that God will forgive anyone who come to Christ, no matter who they are or what they have done, and can use anyone to help spread His word. Read our full review
The film is based on a true story and follows a young Greg Laurie who is searching for all the right things in all the wrong places: until he meets Lonnie Frisbee, a charismatic hippie-street-preacher. Together with Pastor Chuck Smith, they open the doors of Smith’s languishing church to an unexpected revival of radical and newfound love, leading to what TIME Magazine dubbed a JESUS REVOLUTION.
With pre-release Box Office estimates of only $4-7million, Jesus Revolution has surpassed the estimates and more than double the expectations with the reelase weekend taking $15,882,067. Making it one of the strongest openings for a faith based film. The film also scored a 99% audience approval rating from Rotten Tomatoes and received a rare A+ Cinemascore.
The film also set a record as it marks the first time in history that a director (Jon Erwin) has scored four A+ CinemaScore Grades since the company publicly released the results in 1986.
Said Harold Mintz, President of CinemaScore: “Jon Erwin has now achieved four A+ CinemaScores, more than any other filmmaker since we have been compiling data. For a director to achieve that accomplishment once is a rarity. But to hit that mark four times is not only an incredible distinction — it’s unprecedented. Congratulations to Jon and Brent McCorkle and the entire team at Kingdom Story Company.”
Jon Erwin’s four A+ CinemaScore films are:
- I Can Only Imagine (with Andrew Erwin)
- American Underdog (with Andrew Erwin)
- Jesus Revolution (with Brent McCorkle)
- Woodlawn (with Andrew Erwin)
Jon Erwin said: “We all felt JESUS REVOLUTION would be a special movie back during filming. We didn’t know how perfect God’s timing would be in releasing it. With the revivals sweeping the country, I’m blown away by how much people love this movie and how JESUS REVOLUTION feels like a part of something so much bigger.”
Will Jesus Revolution do what War Room did and be the number one film on its second weekend, lets see, but in the mean time, go grab some tickets, invite your friends or pay it forward and give tickets to people who have yet to see it.
