A Week Away is an uplifting Netflix original family friendly faith based musical, think High School Musical cross Camp Rock but better.

A Week Away follows troubled teen Will Hawkins who has had many run-ins with the law, he either faces juvenile detention or has to attend a Christian summer camp. Attending the camp he is a fish-out-of-water, but he finds a sense of belonging the last place he expected to find it.

Sure this is a film for teenagers, for those who are fans of High School Musical / Camp Rock, but this is a Christian version and this is exactly what it achieves. Back when High School Musical first hit our screens, as a teenager, a Christian version would have been amazing, and now 15 years later we have A Week Away which can stand up next to High School Musical and hold its own. It is similar, it has the songs, the dancing and the story but with Christian elements and songs mixed in and it is actually very good if not better. 

There are very few Christian films that are solely focused for teenagers and very few that are actually done well, thankfully A Week Away is well directed and well produced. It is not preachy and has a great Christian story alongside some fantastic hit songs, it will have you dancing and singing along. Though we would have liked to have seen more of a conversion / ‘seen the light’ moment.

There are some great scenes and the songs are well mixed together with top Christian songs and some original songs too, it is fun and I’m sure people will identify to various characters in the story. Christian summer camps can be life changing places as seen in the film too, it has the potential to get people thinking about Christ.

A Week Away is an entertaining, uplifting and fun family friendly, easy to watch film with a similar vibe to High School Musical and Camp Rock but actually better, this is one to watch, it will have you singing and dancing and we’d happily welcome a few sequels which it has the roots to achieve.
