Our Full Review

The Masked Saint brings something new and exciting to the ring, a Christian wrestling film.

Inspired by the true real life story of Chris Whaley, the film follows former professional wrestler Chris Samuels, who having retired from wrestling settles down as a pastor of a struggling Church in a small town. However when he witnesses problems in the community, he moonlights as a masked vigilante fighting crime. With problems growing at home and at the Church, with the police looking for the ‘masked saint’ he has to reconcile his secret, violent identity with his calling as a pastor.

This is an action wrestling film with some excellently shot matches which will appeal to wrestling fans and along with the true story element and nature of the film there is some violence.

Right from the start of the film you are gripped as we are lead into a wrestling match from being shown his story as a child, how he was faced by bullies leading him to become a wrestler. There are plenty of twists and turns throughout the film, from comedic moments, to heartfelt moments, showing his struggle, this film will certainly keep you on the edge of your seat, right to the nail biting, tense end.

It is refreshing to see a Christian film that is different in terms of story but most refreshing is that it tackles issues that are seen today, issues that are not always dealt with. These issues are judging others and being prideful and self righteous, big issues that are dealt with in a way that is not preachy but relatable and believable. It also looks at using your God given talents for God’s glory and not our own. A throughly enjoyable film but with a lot to think about.

With an exciting and truly gripping story done justice by the brilliant acting to the superb cinematography and production values, this is a brilliant and thought-provoking film.

The Masked Saint is a must see and not to be missed.
