Disconnected, Episode 6 of the Encounter Series is definitely an episode that tackles the digital culture of today, where we are so engrossed with the online world we are disconnected from those around us.

The episode follows a device, online obsessed family who find out just how disconnected from each other they are when a blackout hits their home. We see this family all in different rooms, the mother trying to make dinner from an app on her tablet, the father on his laptop waiting for a conference call, the daughter listening to music in her room whilst online and the son playing on his games console. No one is communicating with each other until there is a power cut and a mysterious power company worker (The Man / Jesus) from All Power arrives to help reconnect them in more ways than one, they learn to value each other, to listen to each other and to spend time with each other.

This is very relevant to today’s culture, how often are we engrossed in our digital lives, on our devices, on our social media networks, eyes glued to our screens with no concern to what is going on around us, no concern for those in our family, our friends, we no longer seem to be able to communicate and break away from our digital addictions.

With a great storyline (we also see that Jesus as all knowing, knows computer games!) that helps connect us back to reality and give us a realisation we need to stop letting technology take control of our lives but to spend time with our family and our friends and ultimately to spend time with Jesus.

Overall this episode is sure to hit home to many people and to help us not to become so obsessed with technology. Let us not get disconnected with reality but get disconnected from technology, it’s now time to put your device down and go and spend some quality time with Jesus, your friends and family.
