Our Full Review

Overcomer is a powerful and life affirming film, it is one of the most inspirational films of the year.

The film focuses on what we allow to define us as it follows coach John Harrison, whose life changes overnight when his high school basketball team’s state championship teams are crushed from unexpected news. The towns largest manufacturing plant in town is shutting down and hundreds of families are moving away. Join has to come to grips with the challenges facing his family and his team. The school’s principle urges him to be the cross-country coach, a sport he doesn’t know or like.

John is frustrated and questioning his worth and identity, until he crosses paths with the only student he has turn up for cross-country, who is struggling with her own journey and identity.

Overcomer is the highly anticipated sixth film from the Kendrick Brothers and it is a must see, the production is outstanding, the storyline and acting all work together to bring an inspiring, emotional, humorous and powerful film with an important message that isn’t preachy but flows with the story. Prepare to be challenged not only about what defines you but also about keeping our word, when we say we will pray for someone, do we?

This film packs such a relevant and powerful main message, looking at the theme of identity and who you are, what defines you? Who are you in Christ? How does God see you? This message is so needed in today’s society where so many are wondering who they are and how to fit in. Amongst all the chaos of social media and acceptance, know that you are accepted and loved, you are a child of God.

Overall Overcomer is a powerful family friendly film, that encourages us to seek our identity in Christ, not our worldly identity but to how Christ sees us. Do not miss this film, it is a must see.
