I’m Not Ashamed, based on the true life story of Rachel Joy Scott, the first victim killed in the 1999 Columbine High School shootings, is an inspiring, emotional, powerful, gripping and life changing must see film. A true life story that will touch the hearts and lives of everyone who watches it.
The film based on the journals of Rachel Joy Scott, follows her from her early years and in her teenage years, we see her struggles with life, identity, acceptance and temptation, typical struggles teenagers face each day but we also see her compassionate side, the part of her that wanted to help others, to befriend anyone. We see her give her life to Jesus, but drift away at times when looking for a relationship with a certain guy who isn’t right for her. We again see her dedicate her life to Jesus and share with those around her, her faith and ultimately we see that Rachel is not ashamed of her faith.
With a solid performance from Masey McLain who plays Rachel, as a believable and very relatable person, we see life through her eyes and feel the raw pain and struggles she goes through to her very last heart pounding and emotional moments.
Ben Davies also delivers a great performance as a homeless person who Rachel befriends and brings him to a faith in Jesus, both supporting each other and looking out for each other.
This film is well produced and as well as bringing us a story of standing up for your faith, it also highlights themes of acceptance, of accepting others for who they are and treating people how you would like to be treated, there is a true anti-bulling message throughout this film.
A lot of us even in the UK may remember seeing the news reports (which are interspersed throughout the film) and then hearing about Rachel’s story at Church and at youth group. Her story then and again now after watching the film poses the same question: would I be willing to die for my faith? A question that we should all ask ourselves, Jesus died for us, so we should be willing to die for him, to stand up for our faith and boldly proclaim that I’m Not Ashamed of Jesus Christ!
I’m Not Ashamed is a truly emotional and inspirational true story that will powerfully challenge your faith and change lives of many for generations to come. This is a definite must see film with a much needed message.
