Episode 4 of The Encounter Series is titled Just Believe and that is what it encourages us to do, to believe and pray.
Just Believe starts out as an ambulance arrives and a teenage drunk driver who has been in an accident is brought into the emergency department, while the doctors rush to help, the parents are pushed away and decide to pray for their daughter.
We are also introduced to a pessimistic burned-out ER doctor, played brilliantly by Antonio Sabato Jr, we really feel his struggles, anger and pain. He has no time for his family and has seemed to have lost his faith, with the attitude that he is the one who saves people. He is called to help save this girl’s life though he is unable to save her.
However when a mysterious and unknown doctor (Jesus / The Man) arrives and brings the teenager back from death, the doctor’s faith and outlook on life is challenged.
Visually this episode is fantastic, with camera work and style similar to those of ER and medical dramas, it adds to the tension and helps give the story a dramatic feel.
The story is well written and will relate to many people, perhaps who are burned out, over worked, lost sight of Jesus, trying to do everything by themselves and to make sense of this world by themselves. This story gives hope and reminds us to rely on Jesus.
There are some great scenes in this episode including those with Antonio Sabato Jr and Ocean White (who plays his daughter), those where Bruce Marchiano and Antonio Sabato Jr are dialoging with each other and right at the end where Andrea Logan White’s doctor realises who the mysterious doctor is.
The highlight of this entire episode was making the connections of this modern day story based upon the historical story of Jairus’ daughter. Watch and see if you can see how and where this story was based on the story of Jesus healing Jairus’ daughter.
Getting into this series, you start to get excited when ‘The Man’ (Jesus) turns up, you never know who He will be and what He will be, but it is exciting and intriguing to see what He will do, who He will be and how He changes lives.
Overall this is another great episode which is inspiring and full of hope, encouraging us to believe and to pray, to not lose hope but to keep our faith strong even when we feel lost and weak, to seek Jesus and ask for His help.
