Our Full Review

Soul On Fire is an inspirational biographical movie based on the true story of John O’Leary who survived burns covering his entire body.

After a near death accident when he was 9-years-old, with virtually no chance of survival, John endures an unbelievable road to recovery with the support of his family, faith, community and the kindness of his all-time idol, Baseball Hall of Fame Announcer Jack Buck. With his gratitude for this miracle and his appreciation for life’s struggles, John’s desire to personally make this world a better place grows to inspire millions of everyday people to do extraordinary things.

This is an outstanding miraculous story, the film is directed well, with strong production values and a magnificent cast (including Joel Courtney, John Corbett, William H. Macy and Masey McLain) that bring John’s story to life on the big screen. Joel Courtney is incredible as John O’Leary, bringing across the pain and hope that he experiences, alongside John Corbett as his dad and Masey McLain as his wife.

It is emotional and incredibly inspirational – which is what the real John O’Leary would want, he is a testament to growing through his pain and using what was a horrible situation and turning it into one that will inspire and encourage many people. A prime example of Romans 8:28 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Overall Soul On Fire is a must see movie, it is extremely inspirational and is accessible to everyone. It is light on faith-based content, though we do see that John’s faith and his family’s faith plays a big part in his life and his recovery. The film encourages us that with God’s help, no matter how hard life may be, he will help carry us through and work all things for the good of those who love Him.
