Journey to You is a an entertaining Hallmark movie, that has all that you enjoy from a Hallmark movie but with a some added faith elements.
The film follows Monica (Erin Cahill), a nurse practitioner in an emergency room, who has given her all to her job and prides herself on her track record of not going on vacation. Monica’s new boss has a different perspective on the situation and encourages her to take some time away as it will help invigorate her. At her mother’s urging, Monica heads to Spain to join a pilgrimage on the Camino de Santiago, just as her parents had done many years ago. Equipped with the final gift she received from her late father – a devotional featuring scripture passages and daily prompts to help guide her and clear her mind – Monica begins to appreciate the slower, more deliberate pace of the Camino. She forges relationships with her fellow pilgrims including Luis (Eric Valdez), a divorced father traveling with his teen son and his father. As their Camino progresses, Monica finds herself on a journey to self-discovery that ultimately brings her closer to God and helps her realize what she really wants in life. And as Monica reaches the emotional end point of this trek, she learns something surprising about her parents’ own pilgrimage that will have a lasting effect on her as she steps into her post-Camino life.
The film which is set along the Camino De Santiago also known as Way of St. James is a Roman Catholic pilgrimage in Spain that leads to the shrine of St. James. The location and scenery is beautiful and helps us appreciate and draw us into the journey travelling alongside Monica, Luis and his family.
In terms of the plot, it is very similar to Hallmark’s movies, it is entertaining, there is humour, and of course there is romance but there is an extra depth to this movie. With it being set as a pilgrimage there is an element of faith, we see the characters talk about God and pray. Whilst the faith element is a small part of the film and we would have liked it to go a little bit deeper, it does encourage us to reflect on our spiritual walk with Christ and also encourages to let go of the things that are weighing us down, to let go of those things that get in between our relationship with Jesus.
Journey to You premieres Saturday, April 19, 2025 at 8 p.m. ET/PT and will stream the next day on Hallmark+
