90 Minutes In Heaven is based on the incredible true story of Don Piper.
Don Piper died on January 18th 1989 when a truck hit his car, he was declared dead at the scene. Don was dead in the car for 90 minutes and during that time he experienced Heaven. A pastor began to pray for Don at the scene and a miracle happened, Don came back to life. He came back to excruciating pain and wished he had never came back from Heaven. With the support and prayers of his wife Eva and their family and friends, Don came through his struggles through perseverance and his faith in God.
If you are expecting a film for 90 minutes set in Heaven then know that this is based on Don’s life story and there are some glimpses of Heaven but the film explores Don and his family’s pain and struggles and how they found that hope lives.
The film is incredibly close to Don’s true story and sticks very true to it, with Don and Eva working alongside the producers to keep it that way. Knowing this when watching the film, gives a sense of realness to it all, you can know and feel the amount of pain they went through, something that hasn’t been overdramatised but is real and I’m sure many people will be able to relate to the struggles and pain they went through and also how they got through it.
Sticking close to Don’s story is a testament to some excellent script writing, excellent directing and some fantastic acting from Hayden Christensen and Kate Bosworth, it is a truly brilliantly produced film, with high production values. The emotion in the film can be felt and will have you feeling for Don and his family. Also the end of the film ties it all together perfectly.
The strap-line of the film is Hope Lives and it can be seen throughout the film that hope does live, from the glimpses of Heaven, to the miracle of life and to the hope that Don and his family realise and to the hope they can share with others.
90 Minutes In Heaven shows a real family, who suffer real pain, who have real struggles and who deal with them in a real way, and most importantly it shows Heaven is real, miracles are real, God is real and with Him hope is real.
