Awesome

Woodlawn is an awesome movie, and being a true story just adds to how incredible it is, it is a story of how love and unity overcame hate and how it still can today, it is a story of how Jesus can change lives, schools, communities and countries. It is a story of revival.

Woodlawn, the true story is set in the early 1970s in Birmingham, Alabama, USA. The film follows Tony Nathan, an African-American student at Woodlawn High School after government-mandated desegregation. However there is still mass racism with riots and cross burnings and mistreatment. Tony is part of the school’s American Football team where a lot of the issues and problems are, with coach Tandy Geralds at a loss of what to do… Hank, an outsider who has been affected by the Jesus Revolution asks the coach if he can speak to the team about Jesus, in turn leading to most of the team accepting Jesus and changing their ways which goes on to affect their coach, their school and their community.

The story will just blow you away, it is emotional, it is exciting and will have you on the edge of your seat at times, it is just wow. The message of love and forgiveness and the message of the Gospel is strong and shared throughout the movie, lives change, revival happens but the message is not preachy, it is spot on. Lives change in the film but this movie will change lives off screen – for those that see the film, and yes this film is needed now, we need to get on our knees are pray for lives to change, we need to share about Jesus and stand up for what we believe in.

Woodlawn is extremely well produced and directed, the production quality and values are fantastic with everything from the 1970s looks, costume, styling, to the colour grading of the film and the effects. The acting is brilliant, with superb performances from newcomer Caleb Castille as well as Sean Astin and Nic Bishop. This film directed by the Erwin Brothers is their finest and will give major Hollywood productions a run for its money.

Woodlawn is a must see film, it is one of the best films out right now and definitely one of the best Christian films. Woodlawn is a film for such a time as this.
