The Resurrection of Gavin Stone is an incredible must see inspirational comedy which will have you laughing while managing to deliver an important message.
The film follows Gavin Stone, a washed out former child star who has been sentenced to community service in a Church. While starting out as the cleaner, he realises he could better serve his sentence acting in the Church’s passion play. After being told that only committed Christians are able to be in the play, he say he is a Christian to get the role of Jesus. What follows is the hilarious attempts of Gavin Stone pretending to fit in a be a Christian, little realising that actually it could just change his life and help him to reconnect with his father.
This film is well produced and directed and features an fantastic cast who all seem perfect for their roles. Brett Dalton plays Gavin Stone who really brings the character to life and helps you journey through the film with him, also Anjelah Johnson playing the pastors daughter is another well suited role and both Brett and Anjelah together are really a comedy duo, bring plenty of laughs but also bring over the serious sides too.
The story line is brilliant and works well, as we see Gavin trying to pretend to be a Christian and blend in to Church etiquette and lingo, it is hilarious but we also see how he changes when he feels part of the Church community and finds what he has been searching for his whole life. For those who are put off by Church, perhaps this film will encourage you to go and check it out and for us Christians, then there is a lot to take away here, namely showing grace and accepting people, helping them feel loved and accepted to bring them to know Jesus. That is why we do what we do.
Overall The Resurrection of Gavin Stone is one of the best inspirational comedies out and is a must see film, with a message of faith and forgiveness woven throughout the film and a clear presentation of the Gospel without being preachy combined with laugh out loud comedy moments makes this a film perfect for anyone to enjoy and for you to take your friends along to. Definitely a film not to be missed.
