Champion is an entertaining, inspirational and redemptive film. With a strong theme of forgiveness set alongside a supercharged world of dirt track racing, this is a not to be missed film.
The film follows dirt track racer Sean Weathers, who at the top of his game turns a rivalry with another racer personal. His ego causes a tragedy which sends his life into a tailspin including losing his daughter to social services. Alongside this a prosperous businessman Jack Reed is trying to make up for past mistakes as a failed father, however his chances for reconciliation are stolen. Sean and Jack’s lives collide and a rather tense but unexpected bond forms between them. Together they work through a painful journey of healing learning about second chances and forgiveness.
This film is well produced and directed, it is brilliant, unique and brings something fresh to the Christian film scene. Though it has a dirt track racing setting, it is not the main focus and really helps to set the scene and set things in motion, making a film that is accessible for all.
The story is gripping, exciting, strong and bold, with some unexpected twists, it is well written and really helps convey the message of forgiveness without being preachy. Excellent performances from Andrew Cheney, Faith Renee Kennedy and Gary Graham really help bring a believability to the film and draws you into the film.
The message of forgiveness in this film is really a highlight and a much needed message in today’s age. As said without being preachy the message is wonderfully and strongly portrayed and will move anyone’s heart to know true freedom through forgiveness. This film has the potential to restore relationships with others and ultimately with Jesus.
